L’Arche Stratford moving to next phase of construction at 426 Britannia Street

Stratford, Ontario February 6th, 2025

L’Arche Stratford and our project partner Feltz Design Build (FDB) are pleased to announce that invited tenders are now being accepted for constructing a new community hub at 426 Britannia Street.

This move into the next phase of construction demonstrates the project’s feasibility. L’Arche Stratford anticipates construction to begin in the spring of 2025.

The new 15,000-square-foot community hub will provide eight new affordable living suites, representing a 25 percent increase in affordable living suites for people with developmental disabilities. It will also create the capacity to welcome 26 new individuals who require social recreation support, reducing the waitlist by 56 per cent.

Feltz Design Build will accept invited tenders until Tuesday, February 27th at 2:00 p.m.

Iain Reynolds, project manager, says FBD is proud to support the 426 Britannia project, “We actively support the L’Arche mandate to provide integrated community housing and are excited to help guide the project into the construction phase.”

L’Arche Stratford, through the generosity of donors, has raised 63 percent of its $6.5 million Be Belong Become capital campaign. Reaching the campaign goal would allow L’Arche Stratford to remain mortgage-free and invest in the continued need for housing and growth to support people with developmental disabilities in Huron-Perth. Campaign Co-Chair Elaine Clark-Siberry says, “This has been a long journey with many twists and turns, not least of which was the pandemic. We are deeply grateful to all the people of Stratford and area who have supported our Be Belong Become capital campaign and brought us to this point where we will be putting shovels in the ground.”

Campaign Co-Chair Dennis Goforth says some area businesses in the building and supply trades have already been very generous, by offering products and services, at or below cost, “As a former member of the Huron Perth Builders Association, I know the builders, contractors and supply trades are very generous when presented with an opportunity to support a project that benefits our local community like this build will.”
