Community raises over $16,000 for L’Arche Stratford at 4th Annual Golf Tournament and After-Party

It was a picture-perfect day for a golf tournament at the Stratford Country Club on Wednesday, August 7th. Fifty-four golfers participated in the 4th Annual L’Arche Stratford Golf Tournament sponsored by Cachet Homes and 130 people attended the After-Party at Ritsma Farm. Over $16,000 was raised for L’Arche Stratford’s Be Belong Become capital campaign making this the most successful event to date.

Executive Director Stephanie Calma says the generosity of the community is overwhelming, “The people who came out to golf and attend the After-Party were so generous as were all our sponsors. It is wonderful to see the smiles and feel the excitement about the Be Belong Become capital campaign.”

Campaign Fundraising Chair Dennis Goforth says plans for 426 Britannia are progressing, “It was wonderful to see so many supporters, golfers, and our core members having a great time together as a community. We have our site plan submitted to the city and are eagerly awaiting approval to begin the building phase. We still need to reach our campaign goal, but we are confident that Stratford & area will continue to show their generosity that makes this the best place to live.”

The $6.5 million Be Belong Become capital campaign will fund the construction of a 15,000 sq. ft., building for L’Arche Stratford community members at 426 Britannia Street. The new building will increase L’Arche Stratford’s capacity by 65 per cent and reduce the waitlist for service by 30 per cent.

L’Arche Stratford is part of an international organization that began in France in 1964. Founded in Stratford in 1973, L’Arche Stratford became the fourth community globally. L’arche Stratford’s mission is to “make known the gifts of people with developmental disabilities revealed through mutually transforming relationships.” The organization currently supports approximately 35 people in six homes with a vision to grow and welcome more people with developmental disabilities into L’Arche Stratford through housing and activities.

The next fundraising event for the Be Belong Become capital campaign will be the 9th Annual Walk N’ Roll with L’Arche on October 19th at the Upper Queen’s Park Bandshell. To donate to the Be Belong Become capital campaign call 519-271-9751 ext. 224.
